Kolkata: After assuming power in West Bengal, Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari has opened a big box of promises for half of the state’s population i.e. women. During a program of the Health Department on Saturday, the Chief Minister made such a big announcement, which has forced the women of Bengal to dance. The Chief Minister made it clear that the biggest and populist promise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto i.e. ‘Annapurna Yojana’ is now going to become a reality.
There cannot be a bigger good news than this for the women of Bengal. Under this scheme, direct transfer of funds will start into the bank accounts of eligible women beneficiaries from June 3. In the first phase, women will be given direct financial assistance of Rs 3000. Not only this, Shubhendu government has given another bumper gift to women, under which from June 1, women will be able to travel absolutely free in government buses. This means that now the tension of travel will be over and the pocket will also remain warm.
After the announcement of the scheme, there was a lot of confusion and fear among women regarding the 12-page long application form. Putting an end to this apprehension, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari said that there is no need for women to visit government offices or stand in queues to fill the forms. State government officials themselves will go door-to-door to help the women and get their forms filled. In this form, detailed information of every member of the family has been sought.
The Chief Minister clarified in strong words that such detailed information is being sought in the form so that only the genuine and needy beneficiaries get the benefits of the scheme. No ineligible person should be able to make a dent in this government money. How serious the government is in this matter can be gauged from the fact that many men have already been arrested for embezzling money from women beneficiaries.
Shubhendu government is adopting a very strict approach towards financial discipline and security regarding this scheme. In the application process, data is being matched with identity cards and ration cards, so that infiltrators or people with fake identities can be immediately excluded from this scheme. In political circles, this scheme is being considered as a counter to the ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme of the Mamata Banerjee government, because the Shubhendu government has directly increased the assistance amount from Rs 1500 to Rs 3000.
Along with Annapurna Yojana, the Chief Minister has announced that the upcoming budget of the state will be presented on June 22. Shubhendu Adhikari expressed hope that this budget will fulfill the aspirations of the people of Bengal. At the same time, while countering the criticism being made by the opposition regarding the 12-page form, the Chief Minister said that people should not pay attention to any rumour. The aim of the government is not to complicate the process but to bring transparency, so that the public’s hard-earned money reaches the right hands. Taking aim at the previous government, he also said that Mamata Banerjee had spent the money of ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ on lakhs of foreign and fake women, but this will not happen now.
