Broadcaster Gerry Kelly passes away at the age of 77; fans mourn his sudden demise
Gerry Kelly , veteran broadcaster, has passed away at the age of 77. The famous presenter passed away at his home this morning after decades of entertaining Northern Ireland.
Known for his work on The Kelly Show for most of his career, the presenter had interviewed everyone from music icons to movie stars on a long-running weekly chat show. Gerry hosted the show for 17 years, and he managed to get big names such as Garth Brooks and George Best on the program.
He also had memorable interviews with an eight-year-old golfing sensation Rory McIlroy, who was once seen chipping golf balls into a washing machine.
In addition to the long-running chat show, he had served as a presenter for other UTV programs including Lifestyle, Kelly’s People, Kelly on Tour and Kelly on the Road. Gerry first began working for BBC Radio Ulster in April 2009 when he launched his weekly Saturday radio show.
In 2014, he additionally presented a Friday afternoon radio program before leaving the post in 2019. He also presented the BBC Northern Ireland documentary, Links to the Past: Pioneers of Ulster Golf, in 2014. Right up until recently, he continued to engage in his beloved broadcasting.
Gerry participated in making Tonight with Gerry Kelly, a television series made for NVTV, which was recorded in front of live audiences.
