IND vs WI: The next challenge for Indian cricket team is West Indies. The Caribbean team will tour India from September 27 to October 17. The series will consist of three ODIs, for which the BCCI is expected to announce the Indian squad soon. Since the Asian Games will also be held during this period, some T20 players may be left out of the ODI squad. Rishabh Pant is likely to return to the ODI team after a long time.

According to reports, the BCCI will hold a meeting today, September 16, to select the Indian team. In this meeting West Indies The squad for the series can be finalised. Shreyas Iyer, who bats at number four, will not play in the upcoming ODI series as he will lead the T20 team in the Asian Games.

Rishabh Pant's comeback!

KL Rahul has long been the first choice wicketkeeper in the ODI team and is likely to be the first choice for the West Indies series as well. However, as Ishan Kishan is busy with the Asian Games, Rishabh Pant may be selected as the reserve wicketkeeper. However, he will have to face competition from Dhruv Jurel for this seat.

A decision needs to be made regarding Rohit as well

The cricket world is aware of reports that the selection committee had clearly told Rohit during the England series that he would not be in the 2027 World Cup plans. After failing in the first two matches, Rohit scored a historic century of 138 at Lord's. A final decision regarding Rohit's position is likely to be taken in this meeting on Wednesday.

If Rohit is selected for the West Indies series, it is almost certain that he will play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. With the World Cup only a year away, whether Rohit will continue to play for the Indian team will be decided only after the BCCI's announcement.

Will Hardik make a comeback?

Hardik Pandya's comeback is also discussed. He has not played any competitive cricket since IPL 2026 and suffered a fresh leg injury just before the Afghanistan T20 series. A few days ago, BCCI included him in the India 'A' squad for the series against Australia 'A'. However, Hardik's participation in that series will be subject to fitness clearance.

Though Hardik is fit for the series, he will be back on October 6. By then the ODI series between India and West Indies will be over and the T20 series will have started. Hence, Hardik's chances of playing against West Indies are slim. A reunion between Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal is possible. Chahal has taken 15 wickets in seven matches in the ongoing ODI Cup in England. The final match of this tournament will be played on 20th September
